Output rendering
Apply the universal cognitive-load contract, then add only the output shapes a skill needs.
Every skill has the block below. It makes chat, prompts, code, comments, and files easy to scan. It does not cut needed facts. Add a shape rule only when the skill makes that shape.
Cognitive-load principle
Section titled “Cognitive-load principle”Reduce the effort needed to understand, act on, and resume AI work without reducing the work itself. Apply this to chat, requested input, artifacts, skills, code, comments, and maintainer prose.
This is a working principle. The charter’s principles remain the tests for admitting catalogue artifacts.
Universal block
Section titled “Universal block”Put this managed block first in the skill’s ## Output rendering part. It
still applies when the skill writes files or replies in prose.

Define an unfamiliar term in a few plain words before naming it; keep proper names and exact technical terms intact.During tool work, do not narrate routine calls. Omit dead ends, resolved trade-offs, hedges, and advice the user did not request.When editing maintained prose, consolidate repeated rules and navigation before adding another caveat.Silence and brevity never reduce the work, checks, or requested coverage. Preserve depth, evidence, constraints, warnings, code, diffs, errors, and exact names, paths, and counts.Keep verification compact: pass or fail, count, and runtime. A user skill must not need a seed repo, another skill, or a shared rule file for this aid.
Apply the contract by surface
Section titled “Apply the contract by surface”Chat and progress
Section titled “Chat and progress”Start with the result or next step. Stay quiet for normal tool calls. Send a work note only for safety, a block, a user choice, a key scope change, a long wait, or a host rule.
Quiet work is still full work. Do each named part and check. At the end, say what changed, if it worked, and what is left. State what is true now. Skip the dead ends and search path. Do not sum it up twice.
Requested input
Section titled “Requested input”Ask only for facts needed now. Ask linked questions one at a time. Group the rest. When choices help, give no more than three clear choices.
Prose artifacts
Section titled “Prose artifacts”Use clear heads, short parts, and one fact per sentence. Group long lists by theme. Keep asked-for depth, proof, limits, warnings, exact names, and tech terms.
Use one plain sentence for one fact. Keep linked facts in prose. Use bullets for items that stand alone. Use numbered steps for a true sequence. Stress at most one key point in each part.
Use plain words near exact names. Explain a new term before naming it. Do needed math. Give real dates and times. Say what a link proves so the reader need not open it.
For plain chat prose, aim for a Flesch Reading Ease score of at least 70 and a US school grade of at most 8. Score at least 30 words as one sample. Leave out code, names, paths, links, tables, errors, source notes, and text that a law or safe-work rule needs. The score is a clue. It is not cause to cut needed facts.
Score a fair sample, not one short line:

Code and comments
Section titled “Code and comments”Use exact names and a clear code shape. Add a note only for intent, a hard limit, or a trade-off that the code cannot show. Keep exact code, commands, errors, and warnings when they matter.
Shape directives
Section titled “Shape directives”Render output to match its shape — not all as prose.
Put each shape line you need after the managed block. Keep other rules outside the marks so the sync tool cannot erase them.

| Narrative | Use short ## headings and two- or three-sentence paragraphs. Do not force narrative into a table. |
| Progress | Report done/total, such as 3/8. Draw a bar only for terminal animation. |
Use a view only when it makes a link clear, such as shared fields, a sequence, a tree, a state change, or a layout. One fact or a short list does not need one.
Reduce author load
Section titled “Reduce author load”Do not meet each new concern with more text. First find the source that owns the rule. Remove repeats. Keep a scoped file to local changes that affect work.

Write what is true now, not how the draft got there. Cut weak claims, notes about the draft, old trade-offs, and advice no one asked for.
Synchronize catalogue skills
Section titled “Synchronize catalogue skills”The tool edits pack source files only. It checks the full set first. It keeps all text outside its marks. It writes only when asked.
